Best Laptops Under $600

BEST LAPTOPS UNDER $600

INTRODUCTION

Everyone must know about the all-purpose laptops; the laptops which can perform any type of tasks for an average buyer from video editing to gaming. Every buyer these days demands for a laptop that can do everything for them, that is when the all-purpose laptops came into existence. Mostly these types of laptops are priced under $600 on Amazon.com/US which is a moderate price for a laptop.  With the faster growing rate of demands in the laptop market, companies are launching new products every day with some new features and upgrades. This is definitely a downside for the manufacturers but a plus point from a buyer’s perspective to get heavy discounts on laptops with great features and specifications. Selecting from hundreds and thousands and ten thousands of laptops is a tedious task for a common user who does not have much knowledge about laptops. HP PAVILLION 17z

Pros and cons

This laptop is school and college-friendly, perfect for those who want to buy a new laptop or upgrade your existing one. Over time in years, HP has proven to be sturdy and stylish both at the same time, their products have been reliable and cost friendly too. The HP Pavilion 17z is a laptop that keeps the legacy going on. Let’s discuss what this laptop has in store.

DESIGN

The design of this laptop has been more or less inspired by the HP Envy series; I can say this with confidence by looking at the plastic body with infused 3D metal which gives it a somewhat premium look. This laptop is featured with a ‘lift hinge,’ it is placed at the bottom of the laptop to lift up the keyboard area for more airflow, this is a great way to keep the system fresh and also makes the typing experience extremely comfortable. In recent years HP has been focusing on the color schemes of the laptops to make them attractive, this particular laptop has been blessed with silver color which makes the dock and the speaker grills look like metal material giving it an expensive look. There is also a decrease in the size of the chassis of the laptop, maybe because of the bezel-less trend these days; making the device modern.

PORTS

The laptop with enormous screen covers only standard connectivity ports; on the left, there is an AC Adapter, Ethernet port, HDMI port, USB 3.0 and 3.5mm headphone jack. Similarly, on the right side, there is an SD card reader, USB 2.0, an optical drive and a Kensington lock. Then we can never forget the removable battery from under the display. There are absolutely no complaints against the connectivity of this laptop other than the USB type-C port, which is the most essential in 2018.

DISPLAY

The HP pavilion sports an AU Optronics AUO109D IPS panel which is somewhat similar to the IPS display. The 17-inch huge screen has a better display than most competitors in the market. The brightness and contrast ratio are remarkable looking at the size of the screen. The display has a matte panel which makes the picture quality low, or I should instead say grainy when seen with brightness full. The text and images do not look sharp because of this reason, and there is also colour bleeding from the corners of the screen, and this makes evident while watching movies. The display in these aspects is poor. On the sRGB Gamut, the display covers only 58% which is not up to the mark considering the price of the device. The outdoor visibility is not bad on this one, the anti-glare coating does its magic, and high brightness levels are a cherry on top.

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD

The keyboard is comfortable on this laptop. The plastic keys on the keyboard have shorter key-travel than its competitions in the market. The base feels hollow and empty with loud clicky sound while typing. The user may have to get used to the sound of typing because it is not that evident in other laptops. The keys are very light and responsive, and I can sit for hours typing, and I won’t key tired. The keyboard experience is very good, and it is very comfortable to type for longer durations on this one. The sad part about this keyboard is that it does not feature backlit keys, so laptop usage at night or at dark places is tough. This keyboard is unique, why? This is because it features ‘Elan Software,’ which has the ability to automatically detect palm, and recognize up-to four fingers at the same time.

The track-pad measures 11.5 x 5.0 cm which is big and is placed precisely at the center bottom of the keyboard. It is narrow in length which makes vertical movement very uncomfortable, unlike the horizontal movement.  Flex is no problem for this track-pad because only slight flex is noticeable that too when applying heavy pressure on the centre of the touchpad. There is also noticeable asymmetry between the left and right buttons on the touchpad, the click is shallow and makes a hollow sound when pressed, and also the right key is softer and more responsive than the left one; HP really has to work it out through this one.

PERFORMANCE

The HP Pavillion 17z is not powered by an Intel processor, now that is different. It features the AMD A12-9720P processor which makes it a little different from the rest of its competitors. The processor is a quad-core 15W which shares excavator architecture from the AMD family. This processor is comparably slower than the Intel Core i5, but there are no such performance advantages to buy an AMD powered device.  The overall performance of the AMD is somewhere in between Intel core i3 and core i5.  The system performance on this one is decent enough to run any task without any lag, except only when the programs you run require high specifications and puts a load on the system. Despite the average performance of the machine, it never crashed any software which is an excellent thing for an HP device. Talking about the graphics, the HP Pavilion 17z is powered by an AMD R7 340 which is different from the basic Intel integrated graphics solutions, and they cannot be compared straight-out; but my personal experience, Intel is better! This GPU can support entry level gaming and video playback at a very impressive frame rate, and I absolutely faced no issues with the gaming performance of the laptop.  The processor is clocked at 2.7GHz, and after running several tests on system performance and GPU, this laptop is an average performer, and there are no complaints regarding the performance or response time.

BATTERY LIFE

The battery on the HP Pavillion 17z runs for approximately 7 hours on a single juice of the 41 Wh Lithium-ion battery. The battery does not perform so well when it comes to battery life, 7 hours id when the system is idle with the lowest brightness with Wi-Fi off; now imagine the battery backup with the opposite conditions, less than 5 hours! It takes about 1.5 hours to recharge the battery from 0 entirely; this time is decidedly less when compared to 3 hours of most other laptops.

PRICE

This laptop in silver quad-core with up-to 3.6GHz clock speed, 8GB of RAM and 1TB of the hard disk is priced at $589 on Amazon.com/US. This laptop is not at all overpriced with these specifications and performance.

VERDICT

The HP Pavilion 17z which is powered by an AMD CPU is pretty impressive. With deep color brightness contrast, it packs in a perfect display. A removable battery life running for 7 hours straight is a pro point for the inexpensive laptop. With all the complete, powerful specifications, this machine is a beast for users willing to pay less for good.  I would rate this laptop 8/10.

Lenovo ThinkPad E580

Image result for Lenovo ThinkPad E580

Pros and cons

It is proven by facts and figures that a good business laptop can make a businessman more productive. Every company big or small needs a laptop for employers to be efficient and effective. The Lenovo ThinkPad E580 is a perfect match for a business laptop. It is a laptop which may not look premium but works best at it, a business laptop with powerful performance, a wide range of connectivity ports, a 15-inch display, and an all-day battery life. What else do we need?

DESIGN

The design of this laptop includes a premium looking simple black aluminum lid with either Lenovo’s classic black or elegant dark-silver colored body.  The whole unit is inclusive of a keyboard, a touchpad, a fingerprint scanner, and a power button.  The laptop measures 14.5 x 9.9 x 0.8 inches in size. It is not a sleek and slim laptop, but I was able to carry it around in my bag-pack without any thoughts.  Not only this, the machine has successfully got through many different durability tests like it survived the shock and vibration test, temperature test, etc. This laptop is supposed to be durable, and looks are a significant point. The design in all is perfect for what it is supposed to be.

DISPLAY

The 15 inch display of the E580 measures 1920 x 1080p in a resolution which is sufficient for carrying out any productive tasks. The display is decent with brightness neither being too high nor being too low. The color contrast ratio of this one is impressive as well.  According to tests, the display can cover up to 81% of the sRGB color gamut which is decent enough for what this laptop has to offer, but cannot ignore the fact that 110% is the average in this category of laptops. Talking about the brightness, the brightness reaches just 243nits on the light meter test which is a little less bright than the 298nits which are the average brightness under this category of laptops. Lenovo being modest also introduced the laptop with a lower resolution display of 1366 x 768p which costs $50 less than the current model, but it only comes in black.

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD

The typing experience on the E580 is one of a kind. The keys on the keyboard are very well spaced, the island designed keys offer 1.78mm of key-travel which is more than most ultra-books and it makes the typing more fun and long-lasting. The keys provide 72gms for actuation force for that clickability you need in your keys. Otherwise, the keys are very responsive, and I could score a nice 112 words per minute on the 10fastfingers.com typing test, which is indeed more than what I’ve scored earlier. Not only this, but the 15-inch laptop also features a dedicated numeric pad on the right side of the keyboard, for users to enhance their spreadsheet performance.

On the other hand, the touchpad measures 3.9 x 2.6-inch and is placed slightly on the left side under the keyboard and is without any buttons.  The touchpad has been critically approved because of its responsiveness and smoothness; it provides flawless multi-touch gestures like the three finger swipe. There is one feature which is only prevalent in the Lenovo laptops, and that is the red track-point which is located between the G and H keys on the keyboard. It is not a button, and it navigates the whole system with ease, and we don’t even have to lift our fingers for it. It is an advantageous feature which allows flawless movement on display. It is basically an alternative for the touchpad.

PERFORMANCE

The ThinkPad E580 is equipped with Intel Core i5-8350U processor which scored 10,712 points on the Geekbench 4 performance benchmark test. This score is better than the average rating of 9,280 on this range of laptops.  The 256GB of SSD copied 5GB of media files with the speed of 242 Mbps which is fast.  Talking about the graphics, this laptop sports integrated Intel HD 620 graphics which is powerful enough to handle multi-media loads to play games, movies, and your favorite Netflix shows.  On testing on 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited test, the laptop scored 70,364 points which are impressive for a business laptop. The gaming on the E580 is comfortable and best at 52 frames per second.. The overall performance of the laptop is up to the mark and is productive with all these specifications of 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, and the powerful core i5.

BATTERY LIFE

The battery life on this machine is decent 8 hours and 56 minutes to be precise with half the brightness on the screen. The laptop is capable of pulling a full day off conditioned that you do not use the maximum brightness as it drains the battery quickly.

PRICE

The laptop model with a 15.6-inch screen, an Intel i5-7200U processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz overclocked at 3.1GHz, Integrated Intel HD 620 graphics, and Windows 10 is priced at $599 on Amazon.com/US. This cost is absolutely worth it with the kind of device you are talking about.

VERDICT

There is a lot to appreciate in the Lenovo ThinkPad E580 with the dazzling performance, impressive display, and long-lasting battery life. The laptop is worth its cost and is capable of productive work at the office because of the extremely responsive keyboard and touchpad.  I would rate this laptop with 9/10 points.

ACER ASPIRE E 15

Image result for ACER ASPIRE E 15

Pros and Cons

For under $600, one can expect a workstation with low-goals show, miserable battery life, and alright execution, yet the Acer Aspire E 15 prevails upon these desires, it sports an incredible plan, ground-breaking Core i3 execution, rich 15.6-inch show and every one of the ports that one could consider. It is an 8.5/10 PC.

DESIGN

The design of the Aspire E15 is extremely strong and solid. The whole body is made out of strong plastic which is dark in shading engraved with the cross surface. The brushed example reaches out to the console palm rest which gives the generally original plastic body a little crosspatch. As far as I can tell, the console did not perceptible flex while being used which is something to be thankful for and numerous costly workstations need. The workstation estimates 10.2 x 1.5 x 1.2 inches and weighs 5.06 pounds. The workstation has muscle with a DVD player too, so convenience turns into an issue for in hurry clients. There are every one of the ports one used to get in old PCs, as on the left side there are two USB 3.0 connectors, USB Type-C 3.1 port for quicker information exchanges, HDMI port, an Ethernet port and the correct side houses another USB port, SD card reader, 3.5mm sound jack and a DVD drive for out-dated purposes. By and large, the structure of the PC is fantastic.

DISPLAY

The laptop sports an FHD 1920 x 1080p resolution screen, or, in other words, a spending display. The image quality in plain view is energetic, fresh and has negligible survey edges. Whenever tried, the huge 15.6-inch show covers 160% of the aggregate sRGB shading extent, or, in other words over the 94% normal of different laptops. It is a LED illuminated presentation which procures commendation for its splendor and complexity proportion. The general display quality is sufficient to bait customers towards this rich gadget. On the brightness test, this workstation brought about 215 nits, or, in other words, the standard laptop normal. Be that as it may, this doesn’t trouble much as the showcase generally speaking is amazing.

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD

The keyboard on the laptop is similarly great. The composing knowledge on this one is simply justified, despite all the trouble. With 1.5mm key-travel, the keys make an ideal snap sound, and I could achieve my 100 words per minute easily on the 10fastfingers.com typing test. The keys require 64gms of actuation force which is likewise fine for the 1.5mm key-travel specification. In the expansive console board, there is a devoted numeric keypad segment which makes it advantageous for clients who need to work with numbers, similar to the bookkeepers.

The touchpad on this one feels smart and is set just underneath the console in the inside. It quantifies 4.2 x 3-inch and is button-less. This machine sports an exceptionally responsive and quick touchpad, with smooth multi-touch motions like the squeeze to zoom and three fingers to switch between the applications. Generally speaking, the keyboard and the touchpad are an ideal blend for this one, absolutely responsive and quick.

PERFORMANCE

On the inside, the laptop sports a ground-breaking Intel Core i3-7100U processor joined by 4GB of RAM and 1TB hard-drive with 5,400-rpm transfer speed. The Intel core i3 is a ground-breaking CPU however not difficult enough for 13 chrome windows, a VLC player playing an HD video in another tab, and a diversion left to continue. The framework slacks a short time exchanging between these, yet as far as I can tell, a slack with this much load is normal out of a spending workstation. For this much load, the core i7 would have performed perfectly, yet at that our cost run goes route past $400. On the Geekbench 4 benchmark test, the Acer Aspire E15 scored 5,408 points which are not too bad for a PC of this capacity. Preceding onward the speed of the 1TB hard-drive, it can duplicate 5 GB of mixed media records with a rate of 36.6 megabytes for every second which is extremely quick and noteworthy. In the event that you need to play amusements on the 15.6-inch gadget, let me caution you that this gadget can’t perform for rock-solid recreations. It is outfitted with Intel’s integrated HD 620 GPU which is in the center scope of what you can expect out of a spending workstation.

BATTERY LIFE

The battery life on this workstation is debilitated! The Aspire E15 keeps running for 8 hours and 16 minutes on a single charge which is more than fantastic examining its performance and size. Keeping the size of the laptop in mind, and its capabilities; this battery is removable and should not affect the user much.

PRICE

The cost of the Acer Aspire E15 isn’t close to what it conveys. The amount of this PC is $350 just on Amazon.com/US, or in other words bargain for a 15.6inch workstation.

VERDICT

The Aspire E15 is a workstation with minimal effort and high esteem. It conveys execution at high speeds and toughness is no counterpart for a plastic body this way. The absence of flex on the console demonstrates its solidness and quality. The 15.6-inch show on the workstation is splendid, fresh and clear giving superb picture quality. Not just this, the battery life is far predominant on this one than anticipated. With no absence of ports, this machine can interface with anything conceivable. It is by and large a superb laptop, ideal for clients with a requirement for the incentive at less expense. I would rate this laptop a 9/10.

Dell Inspiron 13 5000

Image result for Dell Inspiron 13 5000

Pros and Cons

The Dell Inspiron 13 is a 2-in-1 laptop that is affordable and powerful at the same time. The device has robust build quality, 1080p HD screen, a standard keyboard and touchpad, and battery life to keep up with your busy day. The Inspiron 13 has many features which we are going to discuss for your consideration. Let’s begin:

DESIGN

The Dell Inspiron 13 5000 is a laptop which has a functional design.  It is not the Dell natural grey color on this laptop; this one features gunmetal grey and matte plastic body. The bezels on the laptop are thick, noticeable thick! But this design has been out-dated now with all those bezel-less display screens. The odd in the design is that the lid of the laptop is square and fair, but the bezels on the screen have rounded corners, this design leaves a grey area at every intersection between the body and the screen, which makes it look odd rather than something innovative. The design may not look attractive to most of you, but the body looks sturdy.  The sturdy hinges never creaked when bending the screen backward into tablet mode. This laptop measures 12.76 x 8.85 x 0.8 inches and weighs 3.45 pounds.  The Inspiron 13 is not as light and thin to carry around all day, but it is functional and productive when in use.

DISPLAY

The 13-inch display on this laptop is not very bright when compared to other laptops. The laptop features a resolution of 1920 x 1080p which provides crisp images and excellent colour contrast. When tested on the colourimeter, the display covered 71% of the sRGB Colour Gamut which is decidedly less when compared to its competitors. While watching Spiderman: homecoming on this laptop, I could see all the vibrant red and blue, the picture quality was excellent and impressive. Talking about the brightness, on the light-meter, the display covered only 188nits of brightness which is 100 points lesser than the average of ultraportable category laptops. Not forgetting about the incredible viewing angles of this display, the picture stays sharp and crisp till 45 degrees of tilt.

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD

The keyboard on the Inspiron 13 is not what one can expect from a laptop of this calibre. The keys on the 2-in-1 are stiff and uncomfortable to use. When ultra-thin laptops like the Apple MacBook provide with minimum key-travel, that works; but when a full laptop provides minimum key-travel of 1.1mm, that is a bust. The response time of the keys also reduces as they are stiff. I scored only 84 words per minute on the 10fastfingers.com typing test, which is very much less than what I’ve scored earlier with other laptops under the same category.

On the other hand, the touchpad measures 4.1 x 2.6-inches and is placed correctly below at the center of the keyboard. The touchpad misses buttons but is very responsive and accurate on multi-touch gestures and nothing different; the touchpad is stiff as well making the whole package suffer. The keyboard and touchpad may be the only reason for someone not willing to go for this one.

PORTS

Talking about the connectivity ports, the laptop has got some. On the right side, there is a USB 2.0 port, an SD card reader and a lock slot. Similarly, on the right side, there are two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A decent amount of ports perfect for an ultraportable!

PERFORMANCE

Under the hood, this laptop is more powerful than it seems. It is fitted with Intel 8th Gen Core i5-8250U processor and 8GB of RAM with 256 GB SSD storage. On the Geekbench 4 benchmark test, this 2-in-1 scored 12,041 points which are 60% better than the ultraportable average. This laptop is capable of resisting any test you throw at it, after the Geekbench 4 test, we performed the spreadsheet test, which was also successful by completing it in 3 minutes and 45 seconds. Not only this, the laptop took 40 seconds to transfer 5 GB of mix-media data using the 256 GB SSD, which is slower than its competitors.

The Graphics on this one uses its integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics, that more than sufficient to flawlessly play videos and movies and even play entry level games which are less demanding. On the 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited test, the laptop scored 58,043 points which are a little less than the average ultraportable category. But this doesn’t matter as the overall performance of the laptop is excellent. The laptop also managed to attain 45fps for games to work efficiently without any lag. The overall performance of the laptop is up to the mark with more benefits and less down points. The performance of this laptop cannot be questioned.

BATTERY LIFE

The battery on the Inspiron 13 3000 lasts for approximately 7 hours and 3 minutes on a single juice which is when we are using Wi-Fi continuously with 50% brightness levels.  Dell is well known for its battery life and it eligible to take it around without wires.

PRICE

The Dell Inspiron 13 7000 starts at fairly $549 on Amazon.com/US with a 1080p display, Intel 8th Gen Core i5-8250U processor and 8GB of RAM with 256 GB SSD storage. The laptop is upgradable as well as degradable at $489 and $999 respectively.

VERDICT

The 2-in-1 Dell Inspiron 13 3000 is a very functional and productive laptop with a decent performance better than it’s looks, of course, plastic body and excellent battery life. The only issue I face with this laptop was the typing experience. The keys being so stiff, I was unable to type comfortably and with speed. I scored terrible points on the 10fastfingers.com typing test. But overall, this laptop is worth using for its lovely display and dominant performance. It can handle any task without any lag conditioned that the programs are not very demanding. I would rate this laptop a 7/10.

HP Pavilion 15t

Image result for HP Pavilion 15t

Pros and Cons

If you are looking for reliability and style blended perfectly with power, the HP Pavilion 15t is all you need. The laptop with elegant design, excellent battery life, and reliable performance is something that you wouldn’t want to miss. However, no machine is always perfect, the display may be a little dull for some users, and the SSD is comparably slower than other laptops of this range. Otherwise, the laptop is 100% recommended.

DESIGN

The design of the 15t is different and better than most of the laptops I have reviewed. The back-lit keys have a greenish haze instead of the regular white which is new, and there is also a big HP logo in green at the centre of the lid which looks rather attractive. The chassis of the laptop is black aluminium brushed for the elegance factor to appear along.  On opening the laptop, I discovered the different lime green splashes of colour all over the black brushed aluminium deck which looked terrific. The 15inch deck had green splashes on the speaker grills, keyboard back-lit, engraved writings on the left and right side of the ports, etc. the use of green brought colour to the lives of boring people. Speaking of ports, the laptop is blessed with a selection of connectivity ports such as a USB type-C port, a USB 3.0, an HDMI, an Ethernet port as well as 3-in-1 card reader which is a valuable addition. Similarly, on the other side, there is another pair of USB 3.0 ports, a security lock, and the usual 3.5mm headphone jack.  The laptop measures 14.9 x 9.9 x 1-inch and weighs just 5.4 pounds, which is light enough to be carried around all day on a single bag-pack.

DISPLAY

The 15-inch display of the 15t is not as impressive as it looks from the outside. The laptop features touchscreen which covers only 69% of the sRGB colour Gamut on testing.  Well, these results are not at par with the 100% of the laptop average under this category. On the other hand, the brightness on this level reached 173 nits which are also dimmer than the 249nits laptop average.  The touchscreen display is fast and responsive to multi-touch gestures and three finger swipes.

KEYBOARD AND TRACKPAD

The keyboard on the laptop is featured with green lined keys which look absolutely stunning on the matte black dock. The island-style keys are an excellent addition allowing well-spaced keys for comfortable and fast typing.  They keys have 1.4mm of key-travel with 72 gm. of actuation force, perfect for fast typing and satisfying experience.  On this keyboard, I scored 89 words per minute on the 10fastfingers.com typing test which has become a benchmark.

The touchpad, on the other hand, is long, measuring 4.5 x 2.3-inch in size. My fingers had a lot of space to navigate around the screen without any issue. The touch of the track-pad is smooth and responsive enabling multi-touch gestures to be accurate.

PERFORMANCE

Equipped with Intel Core i5-7300HQ processor clocked at 2.5-GHz with 12 GB of RAM makes the laptop faster than you could imagine just looking at it. On the Geekbench 4 synthetic performance test, the laptop scored 11,214 points which are clearly more than the 10,000 points of average laptops under this category. The laptop sports 1TB of SDD which at 7,200 rpm converts 5 GB of data with 68.8 megabytes per second speed. For your information, the HP Pavilion 15t is considered as a gaming laptop. It features an NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 Graphics card with 4GB of VRAM which is capable of delivering robust performance with 1080p settings at 43 frames per second. The performance of the 15t is completely unquestionable, with the solid performance that it provides. The gaming laptop can run games like, Rise of the Tomb Raider which is a benchmark game at 44fps and 1080p resolution settings to test graphics. There are absolutely no complaints regarding the performance of the laptops from any critic or customer. I would rate the performance of this laptop as 9/10.

BATTERY LIFE

The HP Pavilion 15t is a beast in performance as well as battery life. The battery runs for 6 hours and 27 minutes on a single juice which is fantastic. There are usually issues with gaming laptops to have less battery life, but it is not the case with this one, this laptop is meant for a better performance; thus gaming on the way is the best remedy.  The battery of this laptop competes with the gaming laptop average and wins the competition with the grace of 6 hours.

PRICE

The HP Pavilion 15t base model starts from $589 on Amazon.com/US for 2.5-GHz Intel Core i5-7300HQ processor, 8GB of RAM and 2GB of VRAM and a non-touch 1080p display. This price has dropped from $798 earlier, and the top model with the same specifications other than 12GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, a 1920 x 1080p touch-screen and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GPU with 4GB VRAM for $1,139. The best for under $600 category will be the base model for $589.

VERDICT

The HP Pavilion 15t is, a point of fact, a gorgeous gaming workstation, and underneath that flawless outside, you get heavy gaming and in general execution for $589. You additionally get more than 6 hours of battery life and a pleasant, agreeable console. Be that as it may, the presentation and the sound framework are deficient with regards to, which may be fine for different workstations, however not a gaming laptop. I would rate this laptop with 9/10.

LENOVO IDEAPAD 330S

Image result for LENOVO IDEAPAD 330S

Pros and cons

The IdeaPad 330s is a laptop which has a class design, elegant display, muscular build, more than enough battery life and an average performance. Lenovo has made the 330s identical to the 530s but a bit heavier and thicker in measurement.  Let us discover what the 330s has in store for us.

DESIGN

The 330s is made out of transparent aluminium and plastic. The plastic although is not at all evident in the body, it is made so cleverly by thoroughly blending the plastic with the metal parts. Lenovo has done a tremendous job in this aspect.  The Lenovo has its branding done in the centre of the lid which brings about maturity in Lenovo’s products of recent years. However, the Lenovo 330s manages to look elegant and premium with both; its feel and when it is kept on a table. The edges of the laptop are entirely chamfered, leaving behind the lower corners where a user rests his palm to type. It can be a little annoying and hurting while typing for long hours. The laptop is completely flat from the bottom, and its weight is equally distributed across all parts, so it doesn’t appear uneven while holding it. The display is well rested on the hinges, which are sturdy; neither too tight nor too loose, perfect for tilting the screen up to 180 degrees for better viewing angles.

DISPLAY

The 14-inch display on the laptop looks elegant and glossy with two display options of either glossy panel with HD resolution or an IPS matte panel with FHD resolution.  The screen on the computer is very reflective, and it makes it difficult to use it on the outside. The fingerprints are now a regular thing, so Lenovo doesn’t even bother to take care of this issue, I guess. The brightness is a little dim as well, as users have commented on using around full brightness when indoors, imagine how the screen would look when used in bright sunlight. The picture quality is natural, and the viewing angles are the best on this one, I could read all the texts with full brightness even when the display was pushed completely back (apparently not the full 180 degrees!). The colours are sharp and crisp allowing the best user experience. Overall, the display of the laptop is one of the finest with no major issues as such; with a high contrast ratio of 950:1 at max brightness, this laptop makes the display ideal for users under this budget.

PORTS

The laptop consists of a considerate amount of connectivity ports such as two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an SD card reader, a charging slot and a USB type-C port for faster data transfer. This model does not include a fingerprint scanner like its elder sibling, the 530s. Not just this, the laptop has an advantageous feature; when tapping on any key on the keyboard, a large battery indicator shows up on the display which becomes handy while stepping out from your home or office.

KEYBOARD AND TRACKPAD

The keyboard on the 330s uses the chic-let style keys instead of island style from the ThinkPad series of the Lenovo’s brand. The keys are thankfully back-lit with three brightness options; high, medium and low. The keys are flat and have an excellent key-travel of 1.5mm. The keys are well spaced, and the overall keyboard is comfortable to use and is snappy. The keyboard on the 330s is evidently better than the 530s. The keyboard still misses the page up and down keys and home key which may be a problem for some users.  If the user is buying this laptop for productive purposes, the lack of these keys may slow down their speeds, but otherwise, typing on this keyboard is very comfortable and fast.

The touchpad, on the other hand, is precise. It is precise and accurate when it comes to multi-touch gestures like three-finger swipe and pinch to zoom.  The touch is smooth, , and there are no buttons on the touchpad, clicking on the left side registers the left click and click on the right side registers a click on the right side. The whole touchpad and keyboard are very responsive and snappy. This makes long typing hours very comfortable for the user.

PERFORMANCE

The laptop is equipped with the powerful eighth-generation dual-core Intel Core i3-8130U processor which is clocked at 2.20GHz accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD. The graphics included are the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU which is efficient and powerful and is also most common under this category of laptops.  The laptop also has upgrade options of 8GB RAM, 2TB PCle SSD and AMD Radeon 535 or an AMD Radeon 540 graphics card. On testing, the Lenovo 330s scored exceptionally well in the benchmark tests as well. The performance of this laptop is no different from any other Lenovo’s performance. It is an average performer, it does best what it can do, and lags behind very demanding software and games. This is entirely normal, and there is nothing to disregard a laptop for what actions it can perform, it does best what it is meant for. It is a perfect choice for students and office workers. It is not intended for creative media purposes like a massive photo and video editing or gaming. Otherwise, there is entirely no fault in the performance of the 330s.

BATTERY LIFE

The battery life on this laptop is between 6 to 7 hours depending on the usage. Playing games can drain the battery even faster. An activity which involves open chrome tabs, an email client, music player, VLC on the background may take a toll on the battery, but it never lags or hangs. The battery of this laptop is less than that of its competitors which is a bit of an issue. But for office workers, it is a perfect device.

PRICE

2018 Premium Flagship Lenovo Ideapad 330s 15.6 Inch HD Laptop (Intel Core i7-8550U up to 4 GHz, Intel UHD 620, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, Dolby Audio, Windows 10) Blue, 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD is moderately priced at $599 on Amazon.com/US. The price is worth the performance that the laptop is offering.

VERDICT

The Lenovo IdeaPad 330S is a cutting-edge PC that looks tasteful and honest. It’s slimmer than its antecedent by almost 4mm, pushing it more profound into the thin-and-light PC classification. While the IdeaPad 330S can be acknowledged for its strong metallic form and by an extensive development in structure, its non-gleaming beautiful and vivid Full HD show, average battery life, and its exact touchpad and keyboard, it can’t be known as a saint for its execution. Assuming it wasn’t restricted to directly its Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and coordinated illustrations, it may have fared better on the execution front as well. It’s generally a laptop worth getting at its reasonable cost of $599.

Asus Vivobook F510UA – 15″ HD

Image result for Asus Vivobook F510UA – 15″ HD

Pros and Cons

The Asus Vivobook F510UA is launched to rival the Lenovo’s yoga series and HP’s Pavilion series of laptops. This Vivobook is stylish, sleek and affordable as well. It is packed with a powerful performance and is a premium budget option for users wanting a good laptop for a lesser price. Let’ see what Asus has got in stores for us.

DESIGN

The Asus laptops have been in trend for the past recent years, and this model is the upgraded or revamped version of the previous generation VivoBook. The F510UA is much sleeker, elegant, with premium feel to the body and obviously pack a powerful performance. The laptop measures 14.2 x 9.6 x 0.8 inches in size and is 3.7 pounds heavy which is not at all heavy, pun intended! The laptop comes in grey colour with brushed metal on the glittery chassis, being thicker on the hinge side and gradually getting narrower is assertively inspired by the MacBook Air. The laptop overall feels easy and light to carry around in the bag pack. A 2018 feature of the laptop is that it goes with the trend of no bezels. It has used Asus’ NanoEdge bezel technology to manage amazingly thin 81% screen to body ratio. This laptop is one of kind when it comes to a bezel-less display, at least for laptops under $600. The laptop certainly comes in a solid state body which feels premium and looks elegant with an FHD 15.6 inch display rested on a 14-inch body, which is rare and beautiful.

DISPLAY

Asus vivibook sports an FHD 15.6 inch display which is bezel-less of course as mentioned earlier. The laptop comes with 1920×1080p resolution which is Full HD and features the Asus’ wide-view to look even stunning from all the angles possible because of which the viewing angles on this laptop are nearly perfect. The Asus’ inherited visual optimization technology is one of a kind and it provides optimized visuals to users according to the nature of the content they are watching on their screens, eg. The colours on the screen would go vivid when viewing a shot from a forest, of HDR when viewing a mountain shot. The laptop is smart enough to adjust the display settings according to the type of content being played. The laptop comes with pre-installed modes such as manual, vivid, normal, eye-care etc. ASUS Tru2Life Video technology has turned out to be a very important innovation for laptops, the videos come true to life when these settings are enabled, and the viewing experience enhances the customer’s interest in the display. Not just this, there are sensors in the display that adjust the contrast, colour and brightness according to the type of environment you are in; for example- the brightness of the screen automatically lowers down when using the laptop in a darker environment. The display on this laptop has so many features that it makes users impossible not to buy it.

PORTS

The ports on the laptop are standardized to all Asus laptops, which consists of a USB 3.0, a USB 3.1, a pair of USB 2.0, an HDMI port, an SD card reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack. These set of ports become the standardized ports for connectivity on any laptop.

PERFORMANCE

All because of its great and above all, the most recent arrangement of equipment and innards, the VivoBook offers fantastic execution for the financial plan. Regardless of how solid the specifications are on paper, the main thing is its constant use and performance. Furthermore, amid our utilization and hands-on with this smooth and snappy looking laptop, we were happy with its general performance. The laptop remains calm and offers not too bad realistic based undertakings execution. All things considered, as the machine doesn’t accompany a particular committed designs coprocessor, the gaming on the gadget probably won’t cook no-nonsense gamers. Be that as it may, gratefully, it can deal with little to average requesting amusements great, on account of the Intel’s coordinated UHD 620 graphics. The hardware on the laptop consists of 8th Generation of Intel Core i5-8250U CPU which is clocked at 1.6GHz and can overclock to 3.4GHz if required. The speed and multi-tasking on the laptop is taken care by the 8GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB of HDD, which is probably the younger sister of SSD. The data transfer though on this one is also fast and efficient. Not only this, but the laptop also sports a finger print scanner to add a layer of security to the system.

BATTERY LIFE

The ASUS VivoBook F510UA was one among the simple first laptops we tried, which joined the eighth Generation Intel core processors and we should state, the chipsets are extremely control effective and vigorous. The workstation offers better than average battery reinforcement and is likely path in front of the vast majority of its adversaries in the section. On a solitary charge, the laptop stays squeezed up for around 5-6 hours of persistent use. All that’s needed is more than 2 hours to charge from 0 to 100%. The battery compose on this laptop is a Li-Ion, and our last remarks on the battery life would be ‘The laptop did not fizzle us as far as battery life,’ while most others in this value run don’t give this great specifications and battery life at this cost!

PRICE

The Asus Vivobook F510UA with the 15.6-inch display, Intel Core i5 8250U CPU, 8GB of DDR 4 RAM and 1TB of HDD is priced at $509 on Amazon.com/US. This price is worthy of the laptop is offering regarding performance, looks, style and battery life.

VERDICT

Few out of every odd laptops in the market accompanies the most recent eighth Generation Intel core processors and average battery life. Regardless of whether they do, they will absolutely not look as clean and strong as the ASUS VivoBook F510UA laptop. In addition, the value purpose of $509 makes this machine unarguably one of the better contributions you can get at present, in the 2018 laptop market. I would rate this laptop an 8/10 in terms of looks and performance.

Acer Switch Alpha 12

Image result for Acer Switch Alpha 12

Pros and Cons

The Acer Switch Alpha 12 is the fir laptop which features liquid cooling detachability in the laptop market. It is a competitor to the Microsoft Surface laptops, but it is way much more relaxed than that. Acer offers the detachable keyboard within the box unlike Microsoft, and it has sufficient specifications like 2160 x 1440p display which is bright and crisp with pictures, delivers powerful and fast performance. Not to forget that it is a convertible laptop.

DESIGN

The design of the Alpha 12 includes a tablet, keyboard and a kickstand which is probably inspired by the Microsoft’s surface convertible. The cover is made out of brushed aluminum which is taken away by the kickstand; there is the shining Acer Logo at the top underneath which is the 5 Mega Pixel front facing camera. The device is equipped with a 12-inch display, at the bottom of which is attached magnets that connect the keyboard to the tablet. The whole laptop measures 11.5 x 7.9 x 0.6 inches and weighs 2.8 pounds which is light and sleek enough to be carried around all day in a bag pack. As we are comparing the Microsoft’s Surface, let me inform you that the Surface Pro 4 is a bit thinner and lighter than the Alpha 12 in dimensions 11.5 x 7.9 x 0.4 inches size and 2.4 pounds weight. The overall design of the laptop is remarkable and future-oriented.

PORTS

The 2-in-1 includes a standard set of ports, a headphone jack, a USB 3.0 port, a USB type-C port, a micro-SD card slot, and a power jack. These ports are much more than what Microsoft offers in the Surface laptops.

DISPLAY

The laptop sports a beautiful 12-inch display with the resolution of 2160 x 1440p. Customers will be elated to know that the laptop display is touch screen as it is a convertible laptop , so it makes this pretty obvious. Anyways, the display boasts bright, vivid colors with the perfect color contrast ratio but is still slightly warmer than most other laptops. The display panel was able to cover 101% of the sRGB color Gamut which is unquestionably higher than the ultraportable average of 90% and also the Surface Pro.  The colors on display are accurate, a score of 3.8 in the Delta-E test, which is a benchmark.  As I mentioned earlier, the display is very bright and sharp, to prove the that it is, I carried out the color test in which the Alpha 12 scored 432nits of brightness which is way much more than the ultraportable average of 302nits. The display is undoubtedly something to glance at.

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD

The keyboard of Acer’s Alpha 12 is beyond class. Such precision in a keyboard of a budget laptop is very rarely to be seen. The keys have 1.4mm key-travel which is just perfect for what it is supposed to be at 58 grams of actuation force which works as a cherry on top. These specifications ended up me using this keyboard for long hours without any fatigue or irritability. The keyboard is extremely comfortable to use, and you won’t even realize how fast you’ve been typing already. The keys feel clicky and responsive because of which I could reach 110 words per minute in the 10fastfingers.com typing test, which is a huge deal.

Moving on to the touchpad, the laptop is blessed with such a smooth touchpad which may be a little small for users who have been using other laptops, but this one is very responsive and snappy with the touches. The multi-touch gestures are pulled off very neatly and precisely. The left and right clicks are equally excellent and click-worthy. Satisfying experience with both the keyboard and the touchpad, I would are this combination a 9/10 score.

PERFORMANCE

It is said that the Alpha 12 is a standard productivity machine because of its components which include the Intel Core i5-6200U processor which is clocked at 2.3GHz, 8GB of RAM for all the quick transfers and web browsing and a 256 GB SSD for storing all you can within this 12-inch device. On the Geekbench 3 test, this laptop could attain 6,398 points which are higher than the ultraportable average of 5158 points. Not just this, the data transfers are very speedy as well, with 5GB data being transferred with 154.3MB/sec speed. That is a lot of momentum by the way! Talking about the graphics, the laptop includes the integrated HD 520 graphics chip which CANNOT handle demanding games or 4K videos. The graphics work fine with less demanding games and light video and photo editing. Anything heavy, the system starts to lag a little which may be annoying. So you should challenge your system only if you want to hang it. On the 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited benchmark, the 2-in-1 laptop scored 64,550 points which are massive and higher than the ultraportable average. The performance of the laptop is powerful for the activities it is meant to perform, not for gaming, not for heavy photo or video editing. This laptop works best for office workers or school students who have to work with office documents and PowerPoint presentations etc.

BATTERY LIFE

The battery on the Alpha 12 is the worst part. As suggested by previous customers, you have to get along your charging cable every time you take it out with you. The battery lasts for only 4 hours and 48 minutes on testing which includes continuous web browsing at 50% brightness. The battery life on this one is very much less than the ultraportable average. The battery life may be the only major point for someone not to buy this 2-in-1 beast. If you are an office person and you never intend to take your laptop out on a walk, this is the machine for you.

PRICE

The Acer Alpha 12 with Intel Core i5-6200U processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, a stylus and a back-lit new keyboard is priced at $558 on Amazon.com/US. This price is worthy of what the laptop delivers.

VERDICT

The Acer Alpha 12 is merely a perfect machine with a bright, beautiful display, 2-in-1 capabilities, touchscreen option, tablet mode, Core i5 performance, etc. But it fails in one significant aspect, and that is the battery life. The battery life is something that a laptop cannot run without, so spending so much money on just 4hours of usage is not a good idea, but on the contrary, the overall specifications of the laptop are much better than the average ultraportable specs. This is where you have to decide, the critical option. I would rate this laptop a 9/10, snatching that one point from the battery life.

SAMSUNG CHROMEBOOK PRO

Image result for SAMSUNG CHROMEBOOK PRO

Pros and Cons

Samsung has definitely done incredible work with the chrome book pro. It is a 2-in -1 device with an embedded stylus, and it performs incredibly fast with the Intel core m3 processor. The laptop is thin and stylish featuring a 12-inch display which is adequately responsive. Not just this, the Samsung chrome books can run programs from 3rd party applications and not just Google. Samsung calls it thinking out of the box and not being confined to the Operating System. Let’s check out the details.

DESIGN

The design of the Chromebook pro is very sleek and simple at the same time. An aluminum chassis cover this minimalist thought of design. The lid of the laptop is plain, with no fancy brushed aluminum design, nothing; it only features a shiny chrome logo and Samsung branding. The edges of the laptop are curved which gives it the unique and minimalist look that it holds. The laptop measures 11.1 x 8.7 x 0.6 inches and weighs 2.4 pounds which makes it the sleekest Chromebook I have ever reviewed. The dimensions and the size of the laptop make it so easy carrying around all day without the baggage of a heavyweight laptop, everything you need is in your bag pack, and you are good to go. On lifting the lid up, we are exposed to the 12.3inch beautiful display with the resolution of 2400 x 1600p which is also touch-enabled. Samsung’s Chromebook implies 3:2 screen size ratios which are perfect for a tablet but a little odd for a laptop.  The keyboard and touchpad are nearly perfectly synced together for efficient and faster performance. The keyboard features island styled keys which are well spaced throughout the dock but lack key-travel. To me, this laptop is better off as a tablet than as a notebook, but this issue was resolved after some days of regular use.

DISPLAY

The display of the Chromebook is 12.3inches in size with the resolution of 2400 x 1600p. The picture quality on the device is absolutely amazing, with bright color contrast and crisp quality, the Samsung Chromebook completely steals the show with its display quality. Surpassing the ultraportable average of 99%, the Chromebook manages to cover 110% of the sRGB color Gamut which is more than any other Chromebook in the market right now. Not just this, on several different tests, the laptop is doing fairly great like on brightness test, the Chromebook covered 376nits of brightness which is more than the 249nits of ultraportable average.

STYLUS

This laptop is the first laptop to introduce an embedded stylus in a laptop. It is similar to the one on the Samsung Galaxy Note series. The stylus is placed on the top right side of the laptop, but it is a little longer and without any additional button in it. Popping out the stylus launches a new functional menu on the screen for commands and short-cuts. This pen is very helpful in taking down quick notes on the laptop and other features as well.

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD

The Chromebook pro’s island-style keys are very well spaced on the board. Each key is backlit centrally for those dark environments and night time. The key-travel on this keyboard is a little less, 1.2mm    which is lesser than most of the other laptops in the market and the actuation force of 52 grams is also less than the ultraportable average. The short key presses are something that a user can get used to after using the keyboard for one or two days.  The typing experience, on the whole, is above average but not perfect. One can spend long hours typing without any fatigue or lag, but lack of practice on the keyboard may reduce speed and increase errors for some days. I could obtain the score of 106 words per minute on the 10fastfingers.com typing test with minimal errors. This result of mine is higher than most of the laptop tests I have taken.

Moving on to the touchpad, it measures 4.1 x 2.9-inch in size. It is placed directly below the keyboard in the center and is spacious enough to navigate my fingers across the desktop.  The touch is smooth and accurate, with responsiveness to multi-touch gestures like three fingers swipes and pinch to zoom. Overall, the keyboard and the touchpad both have a much synchronized response time which is great, and the experience is impressive.

PERFORMANCE

Under the hood, the Chromebook Pro is equipped with Intel Core m3-6Y30 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. I had 16 chrome tabs open along with music player, and a 1080p video paused in the background; still, the system worked perfectly without any lag, this is the power of these above-mentioned specifications.  On testing the JetStream JavaScript benchmark test, the laptop scored amazing 126.6 points which I believe is better than the Asus Flip and Acer R13 competitors. Not just this, I tried playing Asphalt 8 on the Chrome book, and it worked out perfectly smooth and bright. There was absolutely no lag in performance of the laptop.

CHROME OS AND ANDROID

The Samsung Chromebook Pro is the first Chromebook to run Android applications, which is ‘thinking out of the box.’  All the other Chromebooks like the Acer Chromebook R11, Asus Chromebook Flip, and Google’s own Chromebook Pixel are all functional without any Android support. This Samsung innovation has created a path for developers to do something with the Chrome OS.  Installing and running Android applications on Chrome OS is as easy as opening Google Play Store and Installing the applications. There is no hidden glitch in the process.  The only minor downside of the Chrome OS is that it cannot snap windows side by side.

BATTERY LIFE

The battery on the Chromebook Pro lasts for approximately 9 hours on a single juice, which is excellent. The test included continuous internet browsing with multiple applications open and full brightness levels. The battery life is perfect for students as the laptop is both portable and battery backed.

PRICE

The Samsung Chromebook Pro with Intel Core m3-6Y30 processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage is priced at $549 on Amazon.com/US. The laptop, in my opinion, is under-priced with all the powerful specifications and performance it delivers.

VERDICT

The Samsung Chromebook Pro has done a brilliant job in performance and style. The good looking sleek laptop is not just a skeleton of classic brushed Aluminium; it is much more. The Intel core m3 processor along with RAM and Storage specifications has emerged into a perfect laptop delivering robust performance. The Chromebook Pro is one of the first Chromebooks to include Android applications which makes this one even more special. This little addition could be a significant point for customers to buy this laptop. With 9 hours of all-day battery life and sleek design, this laptop can fit into your bag packs without any baggage of a laptop. Students must consider buying this laptop for college and school purposes. All in all, this laptop is a 10/10 performer.
